Go Beyond
Happy Tuesday!!
Hope everyone's week is off to a great start! If you have been following this blog, you know that I have talked about Tony & I deciding to commit more to church and talking with God. At the end of last year, when the schedule dies down for a musician, it was a little nerve racking. Making money stretch as far as it can go, and then the holidays on top of just trying to get through the month, we were feeling the pressure. Most marriages, couples, or individuals go through this in life. We have before when we first moved to Nashville 6 years ago.... but we were frustrated, because we were like, "Here we are again, 6 years later? Why are we putting ourselves through this??" Needless to say, I talked with Tony and just said, "We have got to make a choice to not face this alone anymore! We need God's help. We have to make the choice to talk to Him more and give our stresses and worries to Him. He wants the best for us, He has a plan for us that we cannot see, we have to trust Him."
So after checking out a couple churches in our area, we stumbled upon Providence Church. I grew up Catholic in Indiana, and Tony grew up Baptist in Texas. We wanted to find a medium between the two. Providence Church is a Methodist Church, and we absolutely love it! Over this past weekend, Providence Church participated in "Worship Without Walls." You choose from a list of volunteer options in your area, and instead of church service that Sunday, you're going out into the world and sharing God's love and doing His work that way. Tony and I chose to serve dinner at another local church that offers free meals to the homeless or anyone that needs food. The church we volunteered at is called Cross Style Church.
Cross Style Church, located in Lebanon, Tennessee, is this tiny church tucked away in this small little area. Most of the church goers are in walking distance from their homes. Why I wanted to share a little bit of Cross Style Church is because I truly admire what they are doing. What we participated in Sunday with serving dinner is not a 'once a year occurrence.' Cross Style offers some type of meal every. single. day. This tiny church with barely anything, offers food to those in need all of the time! It truly opened mine and Tony's eyes! It's what we are called to do! Whatever you have, even if it's not much, if you see someone in need you share!
I wanted to call attention to this, because I think that is what this country is lacking lately. We're all in the mode "It's mine, I worked for it...bottom line. Go get your own. Get out of my way!" How I'm not saying this to say if you are successful shame on you, no absolutely not! I'm saying, if you're working hard and God has blessed you with financial success, don't forget to pass it on to those who are less fortunate. Not everyone who is homeless put themselves there. There are so many mentally ill people that are on the streets because family members that were taking care of them have passed and they have no one and just don't know any better. Regardless why they are in the situation they are in, it doesn't matter. No one should be left behind, to starve to death living in the United States. Open your eyes. The next time you catch yourself judging, stop and say a silent prayer for that person. Go out and give your time. And if you are fortunate, research how you can donate to your community! I don't think it's too much to ask to help someone have at least 1 meal they can count on everyday while they struggle. Thank You Cross Style Church for working hard to truly help those in need, and giving people who are struggling and alone Hope!!
Jaime xoxo
