Styling A Closed Floor Plan
We actually have a very small house, every inch of our home is utilized. Our living room is sectioned off from our kitchen by the start of our stairs so space is limited. When we first moved in almost 7 years ago, we had different furniture. No chairs, and just a mini sectional couch that I had facing the fireplace. The back of the couch started about where the end of the rug is now, to still give a hallway next to the stairs. However, this style cut into the living room more making it seem even smaller. Once I decided to get a new couch, I also opted to add 2 chairs and decided to turn the furniture to open the room instead of closing it off.
I couldn't get over how much bigger the living room felt! (Truth be told if I didn't have a toddler right now, I would have a nice coffee table in the middle... but my baby wins right now to have an open play area hehe.) So if you're like me and your home isn't newer with an open floor plan, I would recommend taking a good look at your furniture. Look over how you have it placed- is it inviting your guests into the room, or cutting off space? What about the size of the furniture.. is it too bulky and making the room appear smaller than it is, or do you even have enough? I'm definitely not one of those that suggests look over comfort...(I did research on this couch making sure it would be a nice, cozy couch!) but there are definitely ways to attain style along with comfort and function!
